Teacher Overview

Welcome or welcome back to ScienceMONTGOMERY! As a teacher, you are one of the heroes of Science Fairs, and a most honored hero at ScienceMONTGOMERY. Whether you personally mentor a student’s ScienceMONTGOMERY project, or sign forms for work done elsewhere, you are a critical player in this creative piece of science education.

For 2008-2009 Team projects will be handled differently from the way way they were treated in the past.

We continue to clarify requirements for participation in ScienceMONTGOMERY, for students and teachers. We have written a guide for successful registration, “How to Register,” and included important information for students on Rules and Forms. We highly recommend the ISEF website for guidance on Rules and Projects. There is a new “Rules Wizard” which will guide the student to determine all the pre-approvals, approvals, reviews, and forms needed for his/her specific type of project. Send your students there before they begin their research!
Questions? Email SciMont@aol.com for answers.
We will have several workshops on topics that include:

  • Science Fair rules
  • Registration,
  • Help with other science fair requirements,
  • Writing successful abstracts, and
  • Preparing to talk with judges.

Workshop Presentations and Handouts
See Fair Schedule and Home Page for dates. Teachers, students and parents are all welcome.
We have also added features specifically to help teachers:

  • Log on access to view all your students’ registration information on one page, including the Scientific Review Committee decision on acceptance into the Fair. You do this by clicking on Teacher Log On. To get the password that will allow you to view information for all students from your school, email SciMONT@aol.com. Include the name of your school, and we will send you the password.
  • Access to individual student email addresses and passwords to help them log on at school.
  • The ability to print Students’ Registration (parent and student signature) Forms, using their email address and password.
  • The ability to delete student entries, when it becomes necessary.

We have 12 categories, the same as those we established for last year. This is one of the things that is different from the Intel ISEF. Categories are listed under Students—Student Overview.
Projects done by 2 or 3 member teams will continue to compete with projects done by individuals.  See the new rules for team projects.  The judging criteria for all projects are the same, and can be found under the Judging Criteria heading.

Registration Fees: A non-returnable $10/student registration fee should be turned in with the final paperwork, on or before the February registration deadline. Non-public (non-MCPS) schools have an additional $40/school registration fee. (MCPS makes their contribution through covering our mailing and copying costs.)

Please don’t hesitate to email us with questions and for help with things as the year goes on at SciMONT@aol.com.
